Specific learning objectives

Students should:

  1. Understand the aetiology of traumatic brain injury
  2. Discuss the principles of primary and secondary brain injury
  3. Recognise the difference in presentation, clinically and on imaging, between the different intracranial haemorrhages
  4. Discuss acute management of a patient with an intracranial haemorrhage

Skills mastered

Students should:

  1. Demonstrate the skills of evaluating a patient’s GCS
  2. Demonstrate the skills of interpreting CT head
  3. Demonstrate the skills of interpreting a trauma series.
