Patient has had frank haematuria for two days before attending the GP. He had a four-month history of vague right flank/ lower abdominal discomfort. Over this time the patient has unintentionally lost ~6kg. The patient noticed his urine was bloody with every micturition. He did not have dysuria or febrile symptoms. He also reported no ureteric colic or history of renal stones. He has never had trauma to his perineum or abdomen. His bowels and appetite remain normal. At his appointment with the GP, did a urine dipstick, which was positive for blood +++ and nil other abnormalities. The GP made an urgent referral to the local urologist in Tamworth for advice and further investigation. |

Mother and father are both alive and living in a local aged care facility. Mother has dementia and father has severe COPD. Younger brother died in an MVA two years ago, older sister is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. |

Patient lives with his wife in Armidale. He is a farrier, and has run a small business for 20 years. They have no children. Has a 60 pack year smoking history and still smokes 1.5 packs a day. He drinks about 8-10 schooners of beer a week. |
