Portfolio Creation
Higher education is viewed as a process of reflection and self-reflection that enhances the development of various competencies. Reflection relates to individuals skill set and self-reflection allows individuals to identify their own possibilities and difficulties. Portfolios are tools that displays competencies alongside purposeful collection of individuals work, progress and achievements (Slepcevic-Zach & Stock, 2017). Portfolios present diverse, authentic and scaffolded experiences of individuals as exemplars of good practice.
Portfolio creation whether on paper or on web allows individuals to identify appropriate job matches, to showcase skills and experiences and to reduce unemployment levels (Lievens, 2014). Portfolio creation engages individuals in self-reflective dialogue and enables their abilities to communicate effectively. Portfolios also present individuals accomplishments in the form of cohesive professional identities. Extant evidence suggests that portfolio creation helps graduates to secure internships and/or employment opportunities (Ring et al. 2017).
ePortfolios are digital artefacts that present important information on your skills, attributes, achievements and competencies. Business Council of Australia outlines top ten skills and attributes that potential employers look for in graduate candidates such as communication, passion, problem-solving, experience, achievement, values, intelligence, teamwork, activities and leadership. ePortfolio creation helps to demonstrate these critical skills and attributes to potential employers and also gives you the utmost confidence to match the position advertised to your educational qualifications and experiences.
