Introduction

The first key step you must take to commence your program of study is the selection of your elective units.  The course rules for both the Graduate Certificate and Diploma in Professional Practice state the following:

  • Core Unit - Complete 6 to 12 credit points from DYPP500A or DYPP500B

You enrol in DYPP500A or DYPP500B in the first trimester of study, either as one trimester period or year long (T1, 2, 3 or YL1, 2, 3).

  • Electives - Complete ??? credit points of any units approved by the Course Coordinator.

The elective units you select must provide you with the opportunity to address all of the course learning outcomes and must meet the requirements of the UNE Course and Unit Design and Approval Policy.  This policy requires that your program of study meets certain standards, while maintaining a key characteristic of the professional practice courses; flexibility to allow you to design a course that meets your needs.

Unit Selection Guidelines

Consider the following points when selecting the units you want to use to complete your program of study.

Level of units selected

The Graduate Certificate in Professional Practice requires you to complete either DYPP500A or DYPP500B.  The elective units completed should include at least one additional 400 level unit.

The Graduate Diploma in Professional Practice requires you to complete DYPP500A/B.  You also need to complete a minimum of 18 credit points at 400 level or above.  This will require two 400 level units if you complete DYPP500A and one 400 level unit if you complete DYPP500B

Structure

The elective units are intended to give you the opportunity to meet the learning outcomes for the course, including:

  • Course Learning Outcome 2 - demonstrate professional leadership capabilities, identify professional opportunities or challenges and devise strategies to respond or resolve using an evidence-based approach; and
  • Course Learning Outcome 3 - model specialist knowledge, research, and communication skills that contribute to life-long application in their professional career.

This means that the suite of units you select must, as a whole, allow you to develop or enhance the knowledge and skills of a professional practitioner within the field you are intending to address.

Course Structure Approval

The process for the approval of your Negotiated Learning Plan is explained in depth in the ???, but the key steps are:

  • Consultation with a member of the concierge team to develop an initial draft study plan;
  • Submission and approval of the draft plan by the Unit Coordinator of DYPP500A; and
  • Approval of the plan by the Course Coordinator;
