Identifying Citation formats
Before you can find resources effectively for your assignments, it’s worthwhile checking your understanding of the differences between various formats of information available to you in the digital environment. You're already familiar with how to reference correctly, but read on for more useful tips about identifying sources, especially in relation to the icons and terminology we use on our Library website.
Journal Citations
All citations are formatted according to specific referencing styles which may vary, and all journal article citations for example, usually contain the following elements: Example: APA
- Author/s
- Year of publication
- Article title
- Journal title
- Volume number
- Issue number
- Pages
Most issues of journals are identified by volume and issue number, as per the example below. The journal Clinical Nurse Specialist is published 6 times per year, Volume 21 is published in 2007, Volume 22 in 2008, etc.

Beneath the FIND menu is the link to Subject Guides. On the Subject Guides homepage is link to eSkills 2.0 - interactive tutorials assisting you with essay research. This is located on the right hand side under the General Guides list.

Identifying resources with Search
When searching for resources through the Library, you’ll often notice a green dot and the words. This indicates that you should have immediate online access to the material in full text. Contact the Library if you experience issues with accessing any material.
