Students should:

1. Identify the indication and contraindications to having bariatric surgery
2. Identify the difficulties and complications with performing bariatric surgery
3. Gauge current health status of patient by performing a focused but thorough examination
4. Identify imaging modalities and appropriate further investigations prior to bariatric surgery.
