What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is a process that:
- Exists between mentors and mentees
- Leads to a mutually beneficial partnership
What is the Importance of Career Mentoring?
Mentoring helps:
- To apply the knowledge obtained from the program of study to real world;
- To understand the experience and expertise of the mentors in the areas of interest;
- To develop professional socialisation;
- To offer informal help and career guidance; and
- To set goals and attain career success.
Who is a Mentor?
A mentor:
- develops rapport with the mentee;
- shares knowledge and expertise;
- sets goals;
- provides career guidance; and
- gains satisfaction.

Mentoring Types
Group Mentoring - one mentor to several mentees; usually mentors are older than mentees and vastly experienced
Team Mentoring - several mentors working with small groups of mentees; mentors are older than mentees; experienced and with varied expertise.
Peer to Peer Mentoring - one to one peer type of mentoring or several peers working with groups of mentees; peers are somewhat closer to mentees age group.
